June 14, 2007

The Symantec Internet Security Threat Report (ISTR) provides a six-month update of Internet threat activity. The March 2007 volume covers the six-month period from July 1 to December 31, 2006. It includes analysis of network-based attacks, a review of known vulnerabilities, and highlights of malicious code. It also discusses numerous issues related to online fraud, including phishing, spam, and security risks such as adware, spyware, and misleading applications.

Among findings revealed in the March 2007 ISTR:

For this special AIIM Aloha Chapter session, we are pleased to feature Mr. Peter P. Waddell, Global Emergency Response Manager, Symantec Public Sector Special Projects Team. Mr. Waddell is a seasoned information security professional with years of service to both the corporate, federal and military sectors. He currently provides proactive guidance and tactical incident response services to a wide array of high profile governmental, critical infrastructure and defense related entities.

Symantec has established some of the most comprehensive sources of Internet threat data in the world. The Symantec™ Global Intelligence Network, which consists of the Symantec DeepSight™ Threat Management System and Symantec™ Managed Security Services, tracks attack activity across the entire Internet. It consists of over 40,000 sensors monitoring network activity in over 180 countries. Symantec gathers malicious code data along with spyware and adware reports from over 120 million client, server, and gateway systems that have deployed Symantec’s antivirus products.

In this session, Mr. Waddell will provide an overview of findings from the March 2007 Internet Security Threat Report including current trends, impending threats and recommendations for protection against and mitigation of these concerns.

This event is an excellent opportunity to meet your fellow professionals and should be of particular interest to corporate executives, business system planners, system analysts, and consultants.
