Oh, Hawaii the ideal holiday spot for nearly any one, and what Hawaiian holiday would be complete without souvenirs? While holidaying you may find adequate opportunity to pick up mementos to bring back home to your family. Unlike, the name implies there are not found precisely in Hilo. It is an enormous chain store which has many locations on almost all the islands. Hilo Hattie's is feted for all different sorts of mementos, but their crowning glory is, naturally, the Hawaiian shirt.
You'll also find the other stapes, for example home made chocolate covered macadamia nuts.
They also have a wide collection of hula dancing dolls, excellent for your brother-in-law. They have the standard dash board version, as well as the mythical hula lamp.
I was stunned by the acute variety available in the hula lamp. You will find inexpensive plastic hula lamps for as little as about 30 dollars ; and the hand made more sophisticated ( if there is a creation ) hula lamp that may be as much as 2 hundred dollars. Perhaps the goofiest memento, in my judgment, is a real live coconut. You can ship a genuine coconut back home to the continental United Sates. I say, save your money, I'd rather have the dash board hula dancer. Coconuts are not the sole live things that are often shipped from Hawaii as keepsakes. The live lei industry is extremely profitable in Hawaii. You may have a fresh flower lei sent back to grandma to go with those macadamia nuts. Hawaiian legends say than the ancients, who carried a Tiki statue with them experienced, an immediate run of good fortune.
Today, you will find these statues virtually anywhere.
My favourite is the tiki statue that doubles as a bottle opener. These are tiny guitars that have been prevalent in Hawaii since traditional times. Again, like the hula lamp, you can spend anywhere from about 30 greenbacks and up ( actually up ). A number of these Ukuleles really cost thousands of bucks. The work ukulele basically means "jumping flea" in Hawaiian. This refers back to the way the player would strum round the strings. There are a great many different keepsake shops on all the islands from which to pick your gifts. As well as Hilo Hattie's, there is the old stand by the ABC store. This is not the sort of ABC store that you think about on the mainland. It's truly just like a corner shop formed into a keepsake shop. They are on almost each corner in Honolulu. Another spot for inexpensive mementos is the flea market on Oahu.
It's found in the car park of a stadium on the northern side of Oahu. Here you'll be able to find everything from knock off purses to hand carved tiki statues. Whatever you're looking for, Hawaii is certain to please.
